Officially tossing his hat into the gubernatorial ring as an Independent on Tuesday was Jeffrey McCormick. The local venture capitalist had speculated a run to succeed Governor Deval Patrick on Beacon Hill since at least October, and had  raised campaign funds since, but on Tuesday he released a Youtube video confirming his bid.

Currently McCormick presides as Managing Partner of Boston-based Saturn Partners and noted in his video that his campaign platform is founded on what he does everyday for a living, create jobs.

“From Constant Contact to Boston Duck Tours, and in areas like education, healthcare and energy, I know what it takes to grow small businesses,” mentions McCormick in his announcement video. “We need innovative leadership in the State House.” As per his biography page on the Saturn Partners site, McCormick specializes biotechnology, clean tech and speciality energy, all burgeoning industries here in the Bay State.

His video continues to tout his humble beginnings, noting that he was raised in a middle-class town and one-story house before earning All-American accolades as a scholar-athlete for Syracuse University.

According to his newly-launched campaign website, McCormick opted to run as an Independent in order to be “independent of the special interests that all too often stand in the way of common sense solutions and progress. As Governor, Jeff will not be beholden to the political parties that are putting winning elections ahead of the interests of our citizens.”

Thus far in the early stage of the race, McCormick is joined alongside Evan Falchuck and Scott Lively as nonpartisan candidates.

As noted by McCormick’s latest filing with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance, he has approximately $26,ooo on hand and you can see from which towns and cities his donations originate from using this interactive map courtesy of MassInc Polling group.
