As we continue to honor the memory of the late President John F. Kennedy and place many aspects of his life, both political and personal, under a microscope, it’s hard to ignore the innumerable vices he had. JFK, of course, was notorious for womanizing smoking cigars. So notorious was his habit of puffing on stogies, that he, no joke, tasked one of his top aids with stockpiling them before enacting a trade embargo with Cuba. And you thought I was going to say nukes, tsk, tsk, tsk.

According to Cigar Aficionado, JFK’ preferred Cuba’s Petit Upmann and told his Press Secretary Pierre Salinger to fetch him 1,000 smokes before he gave the Caribbean island 90-miles off the coast of Florida the shaft. Thats the number one followed by three zeros. Salinger, proving his worth beyond reason, was all like “come at me, bro” and somehow locked down 1,200.

Don’t believe me? Listen to Salinger tell the story right here.
