After both candidates agreed that policy should take precedent over negative attacks, a special interest group that has donated over a million dollars to Marty Walsh has been distributing “negative flyers” bashing John Connolly.

The City Councilor and mayoral hopeful has since demanded that Walsh stop his negative campaigning.

“Representative Walsh said that he would run a positive race,” said Connolly in press release from his camp.

“The voters of Boston deserve a race about our ideas and visions for the future. They don’t want personal attacks and misrepresentations.”

The flyer, produced by Working America PAC, calls Connolly a privileged lawyer who was destined for a political career thanks to his parents. Earlier this month, American Working Families, another outside group who spent $675,000 on behalf of Walsh, was called out by the Boston Globe for sending negative tweets about Connolly.

The Globe report was published on October 9, two days after Walsh told the Boston Herald,  “ No, [negative attacks] that’s not in my nature. I don’t think there’s a place for that in politics.”

Last Friday, the latest Sage Systems poll showed Connolly only maintaining a four point lead over Walsh.
