John Connolly hasn’t been eliminated from contention; he’s the favorite in the race according to a Suffolk University poll. But the City Councilor is losing momentum as the the Nov. 5 elections approaches.

Preliminary mayoral candidates Felix Arroyo and John Barros offered public endorsements of state Rep. Marty Walsh during a Tuesday press conference.

Arroyo, a Jamaica Plain City Councilor with strong union ties, was a natural fit to hop aboard the Walsh train. The endorsement by Barros, a Dorchester community leader, simply reinforced what appears a certainty: Walsh will carry Dorchester by a wide margin.

In a statement to BostInno responding to the Walsh endorsements, Connolly said:

“I have great respect for both John Barros and Felix Arroyo and have learned a lot from them during this campaign. There will be a lot of endorsements in this race — some will go to me and some will go to Representative Walsh.”

But Arroyo, 34, and Barros, 39, could give Walsh a bump in youth and people of color voter support — two communities that could prove vital in a few short weeks.

Connolly, though, won’t alter his approach.

“Either way, I will continue to do what I have done throughout this campaign, which is to talk to voters about the issues that are important to them, share my ideas and vision, and hopefully earn their votes on November 5.”
