Even if you didn’t follow the Presidential election to the bitter end, there’s a good chance you’ve heard the words “Ohio” and “swing state” mentioned in the same sentence. One of the bigger controversies during last night’s coverage was centered around the Buckeye State and which candidate would receive its electoral votes. Fox News political consultant and policy adviser Karl Rove awkwardly objected when the Fox’s decision desk declared that President Obama would carry Ohio. In fact, he outright would not take no for an answer.

It seems as if Rove’s protest might have been warranted as only 77.49% of Ohio votes had been tallied at the time and roughly 900 votes separated President Obama and Mitt Romney, but the analysts at the decision desks were more than confident that the majority of the remaining 22.51% (Mostly from liberal Cuyahoga County which includes Cincinnati) would go to the incumbent.

Chris Wallace laughed nervously as Rove, who was aptly described by Gawker as Fox News’ ideological paymaster, finished his misguided tirade and co-anchor Megyn Kelly swooped in to undermine Rove’s undermine of the decision desk and attempt to save some face for Fox. She journeyed down the hall to the decision desk where colleagues confirmed that they were “Actually quite comfortable with the call in Ohio.” Chris Stirewalt chimed in, “There just aren’t enough republican votes left for Mitt Romney to get there.”

In the end, President Obama had the last laugh as he carried the coveted swing state and garnered over 100,000 more votes than Romney. CNN currently reports that an estimated 90% of Ohio votes have been counted, but I suspect Karl Rove is still stubbornly waiting until each and every one has been accounted for.
