This Saturday, May 3 marks the 140th Annual Kentucky Derby. And besides watching the “most exciting two minutes in sports,” the event also presents us with a fabulous excuse to get decked out in dapper-worthy outfits. From bright colored seersucker and huge hats to delicious Mint Juleps – nothing says spring quite like the Kentucky Derby. And fortunately, there are quite a few places to celebrate in Boston. Here’s where to watch the Derby – Mint Julep in-hand – this weekend.

BOKX 109

If you find yourself out in Newton this Saturday, we recommend heading to Bokx 109. There will be no cover charge at the Derby Day event but there will be a special Blueberry Honey Mint Julep for $12. Get to it.

Boston Chops

Join Boston Chops for their first-ever Derby Party. From 4 to 7p.m., the South End restaurant will host a party filled with seersucker, sundresses and huge hats. Mint Juleps are $8 and there will be complimentary “Southern-accented” hors d’oeuvres, according to an official source.

Darryl’s Corner Bar & Kitchen

Starting at 2p.m., join Darryl’s for their Derby Day hat contest. According to their Facebook post, the winners will receive a Salmagundi custom hat box as well as a $100 gift certificate to Salmagundi. The Mint Julep-filled event lasts until 2p.m. and includes a cover charge of $10.

Drink

Stop by Drink for more than one Derby themed drink. The Fort Point bar will be hosting a Kentucky Derby costume contest, brunch, snacks etc – but you’ll have to reserve your spot soon.

Howl at the Moon

Head to Howl at the Moon for their “Great American Derby” party filled with entertainment and mint juleps. Hats, sunglasses and dapper suits are “strongly encouraged.” Tickets for general admission are $10.

Legal Harborside

The Seaport’s Legal Harborside is hosting a Kentucky Derby party with music, Mint Juleps, plenty of Southern apps (think pulled pork sliders, shrimp & corn hush puppies, mini chicken & waffles), and an oyster bar (yes please!). The event lasts from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. and cost $60 per person. Reserve your tickets, here.

Pier 6

Head to Charlestown waterfront for a scenic derby party. The restaurant invites guests to their Giving Opportunities to Others’ (GOTO) Kentucky Derby celebration from 4 to 7p.m. this Saturday. Tickets are $55 and include cocktails, derby-themed appetizers and oysters – as well as an extraordinary view of the city.

Scholars

If you find yourself in Downtown Boston this Saturday, head to Scholars for the 3rd Annual Good Sports Kentucky Derby Party, hosted by the Young Professionals Board. There will be apps, music and plenty of Derby-worthy outfits.

Tia’s

If you’re looking to get your patio drinking on, we recommend heading to Tia’s on the Waterfront. The restaurant will be hosting a Kentucky Derby party and “best dressed” will receive a $100 gift certificate.
