I bet you never thought you could take shots more efficiently. If you’re like me, the process is rather fundamental: pour your favorite hooch into a shot glass, bring it up to your lips, ingest and repeat another ten few times. One local Kickstarter campaign, though, is aiming to bring the shot-taking game to a whole new level.

Kickstick is probably one of the more bizarre items you’ll find on the crowdfunding platform. What appears to be nothing more than a slim, elongated tube for storing drinks with detachable end pieces is actually a multifunctional tool Kickstick founder Jack McNamara is hoping will shake up the food service industry.

“It functions as the perfect liquid container for things like liquor and energy drinks. It’s a mixer, it’s a straw, it’s a drinking game, it’s basically anything you can think of,” McNamara comments in the video pitch below.

Made of recyclable Polyethylene terephthalate plastic and bundled in packs of six, Kickstick is poised to replace nips and make it easier to drink discreetly in public places.

Now, I know what you might be thinking: This is just some bro looking for an excuse to get plastered anywhere he wants. And while perhaps that may be true, consider the subsequent effects of their campaign. Libation innovations are booming around brewing and distilling, so we might as well explore different means of enjoying them.

So where did such a simple yet effective concept come from? “Honestly, I was just sitting on a beach having a drink and the idea for Kickstick kind of just hit me,” McNamara told BostInno in an email. “I thought people would enjoy a bottle that was more functional and fun. Also, I realized that the liquor industry didn’t have as many innovations as the beer industry with its twisted bottles and vented cans, so I attacked the most basic thing, minis.

I asked myself what do I like to do when I drink? Adding a drinking game was the simple answer, so I added dice to the equation. I then took the idea to Copenhagen School for Entrepreneurship and they accepted me into their Proof of Idea program. I learned pretty much everything on the fly over the last two years, whether it was using three dimensional drawing programs, designing websites, networking, contacting manufacturers etc. It has been a long journey, but also an awesome one. A lot of friends, family and teammates have helped me out along the way.

Armed with a novel idea, a manufacturer and a crowdfunding voice, Mcnamara expects Kickstick to take the world by storm. First, though, it’s up to of-age college students and frequenters of the bar scene to help it get off the ground.

“I think Kicksticks will definitely become a big trend, especially on college campuses, concerts and bars,” continued McNamara. “If people shot gun a beer, why wouldn’t they shot gun a Kickstick? You never know if you are going to be playing drinking games, taking shots, or mixing a social beverage. I want to supply something that fulfills everyones desires.”

Kickstick’s Kickstarter campaign has 27 days left to reach its goal of $10,000. Already, they’ve raised $1,975 from 23 backers. Already, they’ve zeroed in on a manufacturer willing to put Kickstick into production, but they need your help. As McNamara writes on his Kickstick’s page, “We have launched this Kickstarter project to establish the funding necessary to create the molds and bring this innovative product to market.”

If you think Kickstick is a viable investment, go ahead and check out its page. McNamara is already setting his sights on implementing improvements.

“At $5,000 of pledges, I plan on releasing a concept for a connector piece,” he posited. “The connector piece will allow straws to be connected for mixed shots, double shots, or shots with chasers. I think this might be the coolest part about the project, so I hope I get to make it happen soon. ”
