Though the LG G2 release date and specs are have all been leaked, LG has released a G2 teaser video before its press event in New York City on August 7. Scheduled to kick off at 11am ET, the LG launch event is poised to confirm all of the hardware and software rumored to be equipped on the South Korea electronics manufacturer’s next-generation flagship.

The first thing to note is the latest invitation, as seen above, which hints at the likelihood of a fingerprint sensor or scanner. Rumors about the device leading up to the event have failed to mention such but the overtly blatant finger touching what appears to be the G2’s screen on the invite is a big enough clue in and of itself. Apple is apparently attempting to launch similar technology in its upcoming iPhone 5s this fall, but appears to have hit some snags in the process.

Another item to consider leading up to the event is LG’s decision to opt out of its usual ‘Optimus’ branding in favor of the simplistic ‘G’ from here on out. Android Authority cited this morning that a series of trademark filings by LG revealed its plans to launch a line of gadgets with the same simplistic branding, most notably a G Pad, G Watch, G Glass, G Link, G Band, and G Hub. Stay tuned for those later on.

As for what the G2 is expected to sport, keep an eye out for a powerful 2.3GHz quad-core Snapdragon 800 processor, a crystal clear 5.2-inch LCD display, an unparalleled 3GB of memory, a sharp 13MP camera, and a probable Android 4.2.2 mobile OS.

The video doesn’t add much more to the rumor mill except for a quick snapshot at the end detailing what looks like the backplate of the G2 with a two arrows pointing both up and down, presumably volume buttons. However, this is also a strikingly similar shot to the invitation with the ominous finger, so it’s just as likely that the G2 will be without a touchscreen. You’ll have to tune in on August 7 to find out.

Overall the LG G2 could raise the bar as far as high-end smartphones are concerned. In a market saturated with lucrative handsets, a powerful processor in tandem with ample RAM and cutting-edge photo technology could be just what users want. The only question mark lies in terms of cost as an affordable price tag would propel the G2 to the top of the smartphone realm.
