U.S. Senator from Massachusetts Ed Markey is set to deliver his first ever Senate speech this morning after winning a special election to fill the vacant Senate seat left by now Secretary of State John Kerry. Kerry, a longtime Beacon Hill resident, was nominated for his current position upon the leaving of former Secretary Hillary Rodham Clinton.

According to the Boston Globe, Senator Markey’s “speech will focus on Massachusetts’ economy, policies to create jobs in the commonwealth and across the nation, and other legislative priorities.”

A member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, Markey previously served for 37 years in the U.S. House of Represenatives from Massachusetts’ 7th district where he upheld the position of Chairman of the House Energy Independence and Global Warming Committee.
