In South Beach today, the Miami Heat will celebrate their NBA championship with a victory parade through the streets of Dade County’s largest city. The procession began at 11am ET at the corner of SW 8 St. and SW 2 Ave. and will climax at the AmericanAirlines Arena for  an an invite-only rally for season ticket holders.

According to SB Nation, “There will be increased transportation options in Miami for the parade, with Metrorail trains running every five minutes to all stations near the arena and additional cars for Metromover riders. Free parking will be available at Park and Ride lots.”

Miami outlasted the San Antonio Spurs in a back-and-forth seven game series with each team beating the other on their respective home courts. San Antonio had an edge over LeBron James’s Heat squad, boasting a one game lead going in game 6 after which Miami won two in a row at home to take home its second NBA Championship in as many years.

2013 proved a magical season for Miami, capping its season full of impressive feats like its NBA second best 27-game win streak with it’s third franchise title. During the streak, LeBron James upped his game and played an elevated level raising his statline well above his season average to essentially carry the team on his back. Support came in the form of Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, the so-called “Big Three” despite Bosh’s tendency to flop in ridiculous fashion, as well as help from ex-celtic and sharpshooter Ray Allen.

San Antonio vied for its fifth franchise title, having won each time they made a finals appearance. The Heat won both games they played against the Spurs during the regular season: 105–100 on November 29, 2012, and 88–86 on March 31, 2013. The Spurs were written off by many basketball pundits, citing age and less athleticism as the reason for Miami’s favoritism. In the end, Miami was able to rely on the raw talent of its superstar lineup to carry them to victory for the first back-to-back NBA titles since the 2009 L.A. Lakers.
