The big headline-making news stemming from WWDC has to do with iOS 7. The next-gen mobile OS has turned the heads of even the most polished tech pundits as rumors, leaks, and even a few cryptic quotes from Tim Cook and Jony Ive have led many to believe that that iOS 7 will be flat, not having that effect where, for example, app icons pop off the screen.

Things got a little stickier once it was reported that iOS 7 may not ship in time for WWDC 2013, though Jony Ive, VP of Industrial Design, took the initiative to pluck engineers working on the OS X team and reassign them to iOS 7, and indicator in and of itself of how significant and substantial the changes and future of iOS 7 actually are.

As for hands-on design schemes, nothing has been confirmed or denied by Apple so techies have been running rampant with concept designs and amateur mock ups of what the fabled mobile OS could look like. Some are even likening iOS 7 to old rival Microsoft’s Windows Phone 8 mobile OS, which lacks the glossy, 3-D icons and interfaces that made iOS devices so popular.

Also expected to make an appearance at WWDC 2013 is a refreshed MacBook Air, OS X10.9, and a new Apple-styled music streaming service unofficially called iRadio. For the MacBook Air, aside from the updated operating system not a lot has been rumored as far as software updates. As far as hardware goes though, some sources are thinking the MacBook Air is set to gain an improved microphone system and better front-facing camera, while the 13-inch MacBook Pro with Retina display could become slightly slimmer than the current version.

iRadio is expected to mirror both Spotify and Pandora, featuring a customizable music station for the user free of charge. In the past couple weeks Apple already signed the three largest record labels to contracts boding well for a streaming service and Apple’s loyal user-base. Google recently debuted a similar service for $9.99 per month, though with Apple’s iAd now available, advertising will generate revenue for the service meaning free streaming for users. Expect Apple’s own interface though as for what else may be running under the hood, stay tuned to WWDC and BostInno.
