Day 12 of the George Zimmerman murder trial continues today and the Zimmerman trial live stream is playing online below. Zimmerman stands accused o murdering 17-year old Trayvon Martin though the defendant is claiming to have put a bullet in Martin as a matter of self defense, citing Florida’s Stand Your Ground law. The case has gained nationwide notoriety for its racial overtones, though whether Martin’s death was at the hands of bigotry is now for the jury to decide. Watch the video below to keep track.

Yesterday, forensic pathologist and gunshot wound expert Dr. Vincent Di Maio took the stand to testify for the defense as to the severity and nature of Zimmerman’s wounds as well as Martin’s wounds sustained by Zimmerman’s firearm. He noted Martin’s gunshot wounds as “consistent with Mr. Zimmerman’s account that Mr. Martin was over him, leaning forward when he was shot.” By that fact, it could be determined that Zimmerman did in fact act in self defense, having been attacked by Martin in the first place.

To the prosecution’s benefit, however, Dr. Di Maio did admit upon questioning that his findings were based largely on an initial statement Zimmerman gave police, an aspect of forensics that he told the prosecution should not be taken into account, but rather data and science above all else.

Last week the prosecution attempted to argue that Zimmerman was the aggressor in the fight that resulted in Martin’s untimely death.  The two sides fought primarily over who’s voice could be heard crying for help on a recorded 911 distress call– a fight that could largely be described as a draw.
