If there’s one thing to know about the crop top, it’s that it doesn’t have to be reserved solely for summer. All you need is a quick lesson in layering to transform the warm-weather staple into a winter must-have. Since layering can be tricky, however, we enlisted the help of Rue Stylist Caroline M. to show us how it’s done.

“Go for a long-sleeve crop top that functions as a layering piece, and throw it on over a button-front shirt to protect your midriff through the colder months,” says Caroline. “Add tough-girl edge by pairing it with a high-waisted leather skirt and finishing it off with a bright statement necklace for a pop of color and a hint of glam.”
