Bostonians know a good lobster roll when they taste it. But finding that quality lobster roll (even in Boston) isn’t always easy – or cheap.

That could be changing though. The New York-based chain, Luke’s Lobster, is apparently looking to open a location in the Boston-area and has even filed zoning papers. Earlier this week, it was reported that there were indeed plans to open in the Avalon Exeter apartment tower in Back Bay. That was according to a tweet from Donna Goodison of the Boston Herald, who pointed out Luke’s Lobster’s request to the zoning board for occupancy of that building.

However, according to an update by Eater Boston, the lobster chain hasn’t locked down any Boston plans just yet. Luke’s Lobster responded to the news with the following tweets:

For those unfamiliar with Luke’s Lobster, the chain has locations in New York City, Washington, D.C. and Brooklyn. And, as someone who’s eaten at Luke’s a number of times in the D.C. area, I can attest that their possible move to Boston is worth getting excited about. The seafood restaurant sources all of their lobster from Maine and, in addition to $15 lobster rolls, also offers crab rolls, shrimp rolls, and a lobster grilled cheese sandwich for only $12.

When you compare those prices to Neptune Oyster’s $27 Maine Lobster Roll or B&G Oysters’ $29 Maine Lobster Roll, we’d say that’s a pretty good deal. You can also bet that Luke’s Lobster will blow Faneuil Hall’s shoddy lobster rolls away.

The mid-range price point and high quality are, in my opinion, right on par with what Boston needs. We’ll just have to wait and see how these Luke’s Lobster plans develop. In the meantime, check out the chain’s story below.
