During NBC’s broadcast of the New England Patriots’ 35-31 victory over the Baltimore Ravens in Saturday’s Divisional Round playoff game, a Lyft commercial aired multiple times – but viewers might have missed it.

Lyft, the ridesharing company founded in San Francisco in 2012, hasn’t come close to capturing as many headlines as Uber, which, thanks to its own clever marketing tactics, has been able to secure more drivers, more riders and more funding. Part of what’s made Uber such a household name is its inability to avoid controversy and, subsequently, a slew of negative press clippings; Lyft, however, which appears to be playing the role of the “good guy” in the ongoing rideshare wars, has become sort of a forgotten company. That’s what it feels like in Boston, anyway.

So what better way to remind frequent Uber riders that Lyft – a company that shared the spotlight with Uber at a public City Council hearing December 1 – is an available alternative, than to air a commercial when all of Boston would be watching?

That was the case Saturday night, when Lyft’s signature pink mustache appeared on the back of a horse drawn carriage, during the closing seconds of a Budweiser commercial – which was shot in Boston.

“Budweiser helped Lyft riders make a plan to make it home safe during the holiday season, and we brought the Budweiser Clydesdales along for a surprise in Boston,” reads a video description on Budweiser’s YouTube page. The video at the top was posted on Thursday, January 8. A longer version, posted on December 23, appears to be the one aired during the Pats-Ravens game.

Here’s that one.
