Back in January, the Massachusetts House of Representatives voted in favor of creating Boston Strong license plates to commemorate the 2013 Boston Marathon. On Monday, the Senate concurred, also voting in favor and passing the bill over to Governor Deval Patrick to sign into law.

According to the bill, the specialized plates will run customers $50, the proceeds of which will go to The One Fund Boston after costs are taken into account, to continue aiding in the relief of those most affected by the tragic Boston Marathon bombings

The passing of the law by both chambers came just one day before the one-year anniversary of the bombings. A tribute event is slated for Tuesday, April 15, where notable  politicians from the municipal level up through the federal will be in attendance, including Mayor Marty Walsh and former Mayor Tom Menino, Governor Patrick and Vice President Joe Biden. A flag raising ceremony and moment of silence will take place, as well as reflective remarks from city and Marathon officials.

It’s unclear at this time what the plates might look like, but they’ll definitely have the Hub’s unofficial motto, “Boston Strong,” etched in somewhere. According to the Associated Press, via the Boston Herald, “In addition to the words ‘Boston Strong,’ the bill calls for the plate to include a design showing support for those most affected by the bombing.”
