The MBTA has experienced a bevy of tangible problems over the past month but now its issues are going digital.

On Wednesday morning the T inexplicably dispatched notices from its alert system informing subscribers that various Commuter Rail lines will be “delayed until further notice every Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.”

They appear to have been sent at around 5:45 a.m. and pertain solely to rail service out of South Station.

MBTA spokesperson Joe Pesaturo confirmed with BostInno that the system was not hacked by another party. He said tech staff is looking at what appears to be a technical issue.

“It’s not affecting our ability to issue legitimate service alerts this morning,” Pesaturo added.

Mac Daniel, a spokesman for Keolis Commuter Services, told the Associated Press that the notifications were “possibly a hack.”

It seems Murphy’s Law is in full effect for the embattled public transit agency, as everything that can go wrong seems to have already done so. Trains and busses have been delayed, trolleys have been inoperable, Commuter Rail service has been suspended, passengers have been stranded for hours on the tracks and no line has been running at full capacity since late January.

The MBTA’s GM, Dr. Beverly Scott, submitted her resignation effective in April so it’ll be interesting to see how the authority, funding and overall structure changes in the near future.
