Forty-eight passengers aboard an outbound Red Line train that lost power at around 7 a.m. between Quincy Adams station and Quincy Center were evacuated this morning, MBTA officials said.

The train was stuck between the Water Street Bridge and the Bergen Parkway, according to the Boston Globe.

No injuries were reported, but the incident doesn’t bode well for the MBTA, which already promised staggered mid-day train frequencies across all lines.

The MBTA is also dropping service on the Red Line from JFK/UMass and Braintree and the Orange Line between Oak Grove and Sullivan Square indefinitely for snow removal and upkeep. Shuttle buses will replace those trains.

“Due to a lack of power, a train went disabled between Quincy Center and Quincy Adams, southbound tracks. A number of attempts to move it were unsuccessful,” said Joe Pesaturo, spokesman for the MBTA. The passengers were then escorted onto a bus shuttle nearby.

Pesaturo said that snow was covering the track’s third rail, which powers the car electrically. It’s not the first time that trains have been stopped due to the third rail cutting out, and if trains are continuing to run, it probably won’t be the last, either.
