The MBTA announced a service restoration plan Wednesday night, identifying target re-opening dates for Green and Red Line branches closed due to unprecedented amounts of snow and ongoing removal efforts.

On Friday, Feb. 20, the T plans to resume Braintree Red Line service between JFK/UMass and North Quincy stations, and Green Line E Branch service to Heath Street. Red Line service between North Quincy and Braintree stations is scheduled to re-open Monday, Feb. 23; Green Line B Branch service is also expected resume Monday, Feb. 23. Trolley service between Ashmont and Mattapan stations is slated get back on the rails Friday, Feb. 27.

Due to reduced train counts, the T is stressing that riders prepare for longer-than-average waits between trains on all subway and trolley lines, as well as subsequent crowding on station platforms and subway cars.

“Day after day with the help of the Governor’s office, the National Guard and several partnering groups, our hardworking MBTA staff are recovering more stations and restoring service to more parts of the system,” said the T’s outgoing general manager, Beverly Scott, in a statement.

Continued Scott:

With all the additional resource at our disposal we are now systematically executing a plan to recover remaining sections of the Orange, Green and Red lines while also working to get our maintenance facilities fully operational. The goals we identified today will hinge on a number of factors, including weather conditions, and while we are making progress on recovering tracks and stations, we are also working hard to get train counts up. This will not be an easy task but our dedicated employees are working day and night to deliver the level of service the people of Massachusetts deserve.

Full service is currently available on the Blue, Orange, Silver, and both D and C branches of the Green Line. Red Line service is operating between Alewife and Ashmont.
