Well – it’s official. The term “McBrunch” is now a thing. Soon, diners could be spending their future Saturday McMornings noshing on tasty McBreakfast burgers and McMosas – fingers crossed, anyway.

Burgerbusiness.com reported that McDonald’s has “filed a federal trademark registration for the term ‘McBrunch.’” And while the fast food chain could simply “keep [the] trademark inactive” as it’s done in the past, we think there’s a good chance McDonald’s could be looking to innovate its breakfast offerings due to “poor sales performance,” as reported by Burgerbusiness.com.

The article notes that McDonalds recently saw a “-2.8 percent drop in U.S. same-store sales for August.” And if it’s looking for new ways to revitalize sales in the future, adding a “McBrunch” option could be a great way to do so.

Especially considering the recent “breakfast wars” taking place this year with Taco Bell’s recent breakfast debut. Taco Bell launched several noteworthy breakfast items including poppable Cinnabon treats, breakfast burritos and (who could forget) The Waffle Taco. Oh my.

The competition has certainly heated up in the breakfast arena.

But if McDonalds does choose to launch a McBrunch, we’ll be first in line. Some of our colleagues and friends even offered their own McBrunch suggestions on Twitter this morning:

We may be getting ahead of ourselves – but we’re clearly lovin’ it.
