Throwing his hat into the ring, Mike Heffernan announced Monday that he will launching a bid for the position of Massachusetts Treasurer and Receiver General. Heffernan hopes his background as an entrepreneur with over 25 years of experience in the financial sector will help him secure the succession of current Treasurer and gubernatorial hopeful Steve Grossman.

Running as a Republican, Heffernan comes armed with an economics degree from Georgetown University, MBA in Finance from New York University and MPA from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.

Most recently, he co-founded Mobiquity, Inc., a Massachusetts-based mobile-tech startup headquartered in Wellesley. Mobiquity has grown to over 300 employees since its incorporation in 2011, as noted by Heffernan’s press office.

Said Heffernan in a statement,

I’m running for Treasurer to use my years of leadership experience in the financial sector to better protect tax dollars, keep our state pension system secure, increase economic competitiveness that creates more jobs, and ensure robust investment in public education. Massachusetts has a proud history of producing some of our country’s brightest minds.  Our schools nurture the creative spirit that propels our state forward in spite of our steep challenges.  As the Commonwealth’s next Treasurer, my top priorities will be to increase local aid, improve our schools and invest in our communities.

He has served on the boards of several charitable entities including the New England Baptist Hospital Board of Visitors, the literacy organization Generations, Inc., and currently serves on the board of Georgetown University’s Lauinger Library as well as the board of the Wellesley Historical Society.
