It’s been reported this afternoon that a 19-year old sophomore named Evan Jones was found dead in his University of Massachusetts Amherst dorm room. The student resided on the fourth floor Washington, a 20-something story story in the Southwest area of the sprawling campus. WCVB reports that police suspect no foul play was involved.

The state examiner’s office will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause of death. Jones lived by himself in a single so he wasn’t found until 1pm ET yesterday.

WCVB continues to note that “according to a release, the residence hall was safe and secure, and University staff were providing counseling and assistance to Washington residents and other students, faculty and staff.”

Students have only just begun to matriculate back to their respective institutions of higher education so this certainly a terrible blow for the academic community and a tragedy for his family.

This is a developing story. We’ll be sure to keep you updated with more information on the cause of death as soon as details are made publicly available.
