Mother’s Day is almost here. And that means it’s time to start thinking about what to give that special lady in your life. Whether its your own mother or the mother of your children, she deserves the best. But if after looking at numerous Mother’s Day gift guides, you still can’t decide what to get her – there’s no need to worry.

Ebates.com, an online shopping website, has taken care of that part for you.

The website issued a Mother’s Day survey to 10 U.S. cities to find out what gifts moms most want to receive. The online survey was conducted by Harris Poll on behalf of Ebates.com in March 2014.

Across the board the survey found that moms in five of the cities (Los Angeles, Chicago, Dallas-Fort Worth, Washington DC, and Atlanta) cited “quality time with family” as their top gift.

But not Boston.

No – here in the Hub, mom’s just want to be wined and dined. The survey revealed that 44 percent of Boston area moms named “fine dining” as their top gift choice. But with all of the great restaurants in the area, who could blame them?

Coming in as the number two most desired Mother’s Day present was  quality time with friends or a gift card to a favorite store. A spa day (always a winner) came in at number three. A “clean house” came in at number four and finally, chocolate was cited as the fifth most popular Mother’s Day gift choice.

I’m only surprised chocolate wasn’t ranked higher – but maybe that’s just me.

As far as what not to get your mom – we recommend staying away from cowboy boots (not that you wouldn’t anyway). Across all ten cities, 69 percent of mothers agreed that this was the number one item they didn’t want. We also don’t recommend buying sunglasses, accessories, purses, perfume or a smartphone. Per the survey, mother’s do not want to wake up to this present come Sunday morning.

You’re welcome, folks!
