Portsmouth-based MyApartmentMap.com is working hard to save the world from apartment search perils. While the company has been developing versions of their apartment listing solution since 2006, they have launched a powerful new search engine, new features, and a sleek new interface to the public today.

At its core, MyApartmentMap is a search engine for apartment listings. It gathers verified listings from across the United States from sites like ForRent.com, Move.com and Apartments.com, and then allows users to drill into these listings by location and by filtering for things like price, number of bedrooms, being pet-friendly, type and a slew of amenities. Right now MyApartmentMap boasts over 430,000 verified apartment listings in the US. To give you a sense of their Boston presence, a search in a 3-mile radius around the 02108 area code spit out 67 rental options.

Search results are displayed in a very slick interface with each apartment including address, neighborhood, the site the listing was aggregated from, pet policy, amenities, average prices according to number of bedrooms and more. This allows you to quickly scan options that pique your often quirky rental must-haves and nice-to-haves.

MyApartmentMap also provides users the option to see full search results on a map — automatically doing what many of us have done manually before in tediously dropping pins on a Google map from apartments we come across on Craigslist and other sites across the web.

My favorite feature of the search result listing is by far the ability to see what’s around a specific rental location for gyms, grocery stores, restaurants, laundry, schools, and even bars. This visually provides you with all your questions about how far you’re going to have to walk to get your groceries and what’s going to be your go-to neighborhood drinking spot. What makes the feature doubly great is that you don’t have to leave the MyApartmentMap.com site to see area information on a map: all you have to do is click “Maps” and a dropdown appears (refer to image).

This delightfully seamless experience from within MyApartmentMap also extends to a drop down of a street view of the location, a simple form to directly contact the owner, and ability to save the listing in one click. And if you haven’t had all your rental questions answered by MyApartmentMap, all you have to do is click through to the original rental site.

MyApartmentMap is using its aggregate listing data to then generate up-to-date rental data specific to your search query. For example, I learned that in to 02108 area code studios are running an average rent of $1518, 1 bedrooms at $1741 and 2 bedrooms at $2243. Apartment data also shows rental information from neighboring zip codes, giving you an even better picture of the rental market you’re interested in.

MyApartmentMap began as a simple tech mashup to help its creator find an apartment here in Boston, and its new polished look and feature set will absolutely make it your first stop in the apartment search. After the last few years of research, design and development, MyApartmentMap now boasts the most comprehensive and feature rich apartment search on the web today.
