For those who don’t know how the draft operates, each NBA team is given an ordered pick of a college player they wish to sign contractually to their squad. Teams can opt to use their picks on a player or trade them away in favor of current players, other draft pick spots, money, or future picks. A lottery is enacted for teams who had missed the playoffs in the previous season, or teams who hold the draft rights of another team that missed the playoffs in the previous season, in order to decide which teams boast the first three picks.

Our own Boston Celtics are sitting with the 16th pick as this draft is poised to be a crucial one for the C’s after the departure of head coach Doc Rivers and the likely loss of Paul Piece and Kevin Garnett. Coach Rivers, Pierce, Garnett, and some dude who bolted for Miami in search of an easy championship were catalysts in the Celtics’ 2008 championship run showing poise, leadership, and the will to win in a season that revived Boston’s reputation as a basketball town.

Earlier this week Sports Illustrated published a mock draft of who they think the Celtics off choosing. They think San Diego State junior Jamaal Franklin would be the best fit at the 16th draft spot, citing the 6-ft 5-inch 191 lb shooting guard would translate his SDU-leading points, rebounds, assists, and steals into hardwood gold at the TD Garden.

But what do you all think? How do you think the draft will go for the Green? Who will be the number 1 overall pick? Let us know what you think in the comments section below.
