The Boston 2024 Olympic partnership is currently awaiting a decision from the United States Olympic Committee on which U.S. city it will choose to possibly bid for the 2024 Summer Games. And while the bid’s status remains in limbo, a new video has emerged showcasing some prominent Boston education personalities who endorse the chance of hosting the Olympics in The Hub.

Berklee College of Music’s President Roger H. Brown mentioned one slightly amusing line in particular, remarking that “hipsters of all stripes have decided that this is a good place to be.” Hipsters? Is that a selling point for the USOC?

Beyond the confusion of that one line, the video is essentially what one would expect from a bid that is actively petitioning for support. It showcases people like Tommy Amaker, coach of Harvard’s men’s basketball team, and Joi Ito, Director of MIT’s Media Lab, as they speak about the many positive attributes that Boston has, and how those qualities relate to hosting a successful Games.

The education community is itself a particular selling point for Boston, given that it has a unique power that the other competing U.S. cities (Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Washington D.C.) cannot offer on the same level. A strong partnership between the 2024 bid and the education community in Boston creates a way to host the Games (a possible athlete’s village, for example, would be located on a college campus).

Other components mentioned in the video included the “walkability” of a Boston Games, though that notion is disputable, given the fact that (for example) rowing would take place in Lowell. Also, Boston’s strong healthcare industry got a mention, being an area that (like education) the city is ahead of its domestic bid competition.

Essentially, it was yet another step taken by the Boston bid to illustrate how they are not only capable of hosting an Olympics, but have the support of prominent members of the local community. Hipsters, however, might have some thoughts of their own on the matter.
