It’s officially summer shandy season, folks! The warm hot weather means it’s time to open the refrigerator and grab yourself a cold one. That is, a beer-lemonade hybrid, referred to as a “shandy.” And even though it’s not all that hard to make yourself, combining lemonade with beer, there are a few beer companies that already produce ready-brewed versions of the summertime drink.

Fortunately for Bostonians, some of the best summer shandies are brewed right here in New England. How do we know this? Because the Huffington Post conducted their own shandy taste test and two New England brews came out on top.

According to the article, the Huffington Post “gathered a group of editors, served them shandies in unlabeled cups, and got them to write down the first thing that came to their minds.”

The group taste tested some of the most well-known shandy brands including Shock-Top Lemon Shandy, Amstel Bier Radler, Narragansett Shandy, Leinenkugel’s Summer Shandy, Curious Traveler Shandy, and Sam Adams Porch Rocker.

Out of this selection, New England’s very own Curious Traveler Shandy was ranked as the best shandy. The Curious Traveler Shandy is brewed by the Traveler Beer Company, a subsidiary of Boston Beer Company. Huffington Post editors used the words, “zesty and floral. NICE.” “Sweet, bitter, citrusy, but not overpowering…” to describe the shandy.

Along with Curious Traveler Shandy, another New England shandy cracked the top three list. Narragansett Shandy was ranked as the third best shandy on the list. Described as “lemony finish, pretty mild and refreshing,” this Narragansett Shandy is another must-drink this summer.
