A recent leaked photo claims to be the new iPhone 5C in testing at a Pegatron facility. As you’ll see in the photo, courtesy of Nowhereelse.fr via Chinese social media network Weibo, a large number of the devices have been assembled and appear to be running some kind of software. The low-cost iPhone 5C is expected to launch alongside the next-gen flagship iPhone 5S during a September 10 press event hosted by Apple.

Supposedly, according to Engadget, the Pegatron plant is located in Shangahi, China rendering the photograph legit as it comes from the nation’s social media platform.

Apple Insider describes the bevy of iPhones as featuring “a black glass facade surrounding the display, an aspect that runs counter to previous renders, which have shown the device with a white face.”

The devices in question appear to be solely black and white, though one of the features afforded to users who plan on opting for the affordable iPhone version will be a large colorful spectrum of plastic neon shells including blue, red, green, and yellow.

Little is known about the so called budget-friendly iPhone in terms of technical specs and price. All of the information we’ve been able to gather suggests the will be taking some design cues from previous models while boasting the aforementioned plastic casing. Look for a 4-inch display, likely to not include the fingerprint sensor alleged to bolster authentication measures, and a scaled-back variation of iOS 7 that would exclude some apps like Siri.

In terms of cost, a roughly $300 price tag without a contract subsidy, which with the standard 2-year agreement could be as low as $99, is probable.

Both the iPhone 5C and iPhone 5S are all but confirmed to be consumer available in markets like that of Japan on September 20, a sign that Apple could be gearing up for a similar release timeline on domestic soil. Apple typically launches its devices about 10 days or so after their press event debuts, so a Sept. 20 release falls perfectly in line with the Sept. 10 event rumors.
