In a new video posted on YouTube by the account EverythingApplePro, the user compares the new iPhone 5S and iPhone 5C to all other iPhone versions that have produced since the smartphone’s inception. The clip is as informative as it is thoughtful, an attempt to inform prospective mobile Apple users of processing speeds and other items that may be deemed gimmicky.

The findings in the video, which is unofficial by any standards but no less insightful, are surprising in that some of the past-generations of the iPhone, stemming from the iPhone 2G, are just as fast if not faster than some of the more recent-generations. Granted the only real tests put on display have to do with powering-down, booting-up, and navigating to a couple of websites but you get the basic idea.

A video like this is important to note for those looking to make that final step into the real, adult world by purchasing a smartphone because promotional tools like processing speeds can be misleading at times. In the video you’ll see that ultimately, the variation in speeds is hardly even noticeable in real life but the difference between, say, an iPhone 5S and an iPhone 5C is a hefty $100. That’s like, 20 Hot Corned Beef Sandwiches available at The Harp in Boston this month.

Whether the most recent-generation of a smartphone is really worth the added effort of cracking open your piggy bank is, of course, ultimately up to the user. Still, it can be helpful to have different points of view on the subject and because I just today bought my first smartphone (an iPhone 5S) I can personally attest to the effectiveness a video like this can have on a potential buyer.

Unless, like me, you find the video after you already make the purchase.
