In a video released last night while the government began its transition into a shutdown, President Obama released a video pledging timely paychecks to military troops and Department of Defense personnel.

One of the threats of the government ceasing operations would be that federal employees, including those in the armed forces, would either be put on furlough or have their paychecks retroactively received. In his video address, though, the President let it be known that Congress was in the process of passing legislation to continue their paychecks and that he would ultimately sign it into law.

In the video, which runs just shy of 3 and a half minutes, President Obama directly blames Congress for the shutdown noting how “it failed its responsibility. It failed to pass a budget. As a result, our government must shutdown until Congress funds it again.”
