The Red Sox 2010 season will be starting up again this April. Until then, we know you’re watching everything about their preparation.
We’ve compiled a list of Red Sox Facebook pages so you can dive headfirst into the Sox social media scene. The Red Sox are one of the more popular Boston teams on Facebook, but they still have a lot of room for improvement. The top dog, however, has edged out everyone else on the team in a big way:
David Ortiz – 393,702 fans
What can I say? Big Papi has a BIG Facebook page. In addition to a fantastic profile image, the page has video, tons of pics, discussions – almost every tab is chalk full of Papi goodness. As the most engaging page of a New England athlete I’ve seen so far, Ortiz’s page shows us what a successful Facebook fan page should look like. He’s also the only Sox player on Twitter, (@DavidOrtiz) where he has 18,673 followers.
Jacoby Ellsbury – 51,858 fans
All the other Sox player’s pages are comparatively dwarfed by Papi’s. Jacoby is the closest, which is still light years away from an updated and dynamic media source. Lots of pictures and consistent fan wall posts are the highlights.
Jason Varitek – 18,715 fans
For the captain of the Sox, Tek’s page certainly lacks authority. Like Jacoby, user comments are frequent, but any kind of authoritative wall posts are scattered to say the least.
Curt Schilling – 12,553 fans
Former pitcher Curt Schilling has a respectable fan following (compared to the other sub Papi pages) and draws a good amount of fan wall posts. Other areas are lacking, however. Not even a picture of the bloody sock? Come on Curt.
From here on fan counts fall along with the players’ effort to engage fans on Facebook. You can help the following pages by becoming a fan and contributing to discussions. If you think you can do better you might even want to start your own page to build up for your favorite Sox player.
Jonathan Papelbon – 10,686 fans
Kevin Youkilis – 9,827
Mike Lowell – 8,642 fans
Dustin Pedroia – 8,501 fans
Jon Lester – 7,279 fans
Josh Beckett – 4,786 fans
Jed Lowrie – 1,598 fans
Victor Martinez – 1,279 fans
JD Drew – 1,242 fans
Clay Buchholz – 1,127 fans
Daniel Bard – 986 fans
John Lackey – 471 fans
Felix Doubront – 344 fans
The Sox players have potential on Facebook (especially with Big Papi leading the way) and will thrive with a little help from the fans and players. Also take into account that activity slows during the off-season so all of these pages are sure to brighten up come April.
