Republican Frank Addivionla announced his candidacy for Democrat Ed Markey’s U.S. Senate this past Presidents’ Day. Last year, Addivinola lost to Democrat Katherine Clark in the Special Election to fill Markey’s vacated U.S. House of Representatives seat when he took over for now-Secretary of State John Kerry. In 2012, he was a Republican candidate for the House of Rep. to represent the 5th District of Massachusetts.

“Now, more than ever, Republicans need to connect with the voters in Massachusetts and clearly communicate to them that the Republican Party is the party of working people,” wrote Addivionla in his release,” that the Republican Party is the party that will protect the middle class, that the Republican Party is the party that cares about the needy and disadvantaged.”

Addivionla wrote that he is willing to bring his message out to the public but asked for people to assist him in getting involved and donating money.

As U.S. Senator, Addivionla explains on his website, he plans to focus on issues including: helping businesses create new jobs, getting federal spending under control, implementing tax policies that benefit individuals and businesses, reforming government programs to be more efficient and cost-effective, and imposing accountability and transparency within the federal government.

Addivionla was born and raised in Malden, Mass. He graduated from Williams College and earned his ALM (Master of Liberal Arts) from Harvard  Extension  School. Currently, Addivionla owns and operates several businesses and teaches intro to law and life sciences at local colleges. As well, he also has a private law practice and and owns an educational publishing company.

Incumbent Senator Ed Markey will be running for re-election for his first full term. Currently, Addivionla is up against two Republicans Brian J. Herr and J. Mark Inman. The election for State Senate for Massachusetts will take place on Nov. 4, 2014.
