A MBTA officer injured during the April 18 shootout in Watertown involving the Boston Marathon bombing suspects was honored in Woburn during an annual Halloween parade  Sunday.

Transit officer Richard “Dic” Donohue, of Woburn, served as the parade’s grand marshal six months after his femoral artery was severed when a bullet struck him in the leg, causing him nearly to bleed to death.

He was originally treated at Mount Auburn Hospital and later moved to the Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital, before he was released in June.

“Folks continuing to come out, many months afterwards, and I get to see people I work with and people I know from the community again, so that’s always a good thing,” Donohue told NECN.

Organized by the Woburn host Lions Club, Sunday’s parade honored first responders of the Boston Marathon bombings.

Reportedly, the 59-year-old parade has only had four grand marshals who were not members of the Lions Club.

Parade chairman Brian Murphy told NECN it was a fitting gesture.

Donohue gave credit to the community for their support which he said helped him during his recovery, telling NECN “It just helps you kind of get along, get things done that you need to get done and make it through emotionally, as well.”
