Boston-based startup RunKeeper is now taking the world by storm. Literally. RunKeeper announced today that its going global and adding six new languages. The fitness-tracking app will now be available in French, Spanish, Italian, German, Japanese, and Brazilian Portuguese.

RunKeeper was launched back in 2008 and has since garnered over 20 million users. The free Android and iOS app is simple. It uses the GPS built into your smartphone to track pace, distance, and time of your run, walk, hike, or bike ride. The app also lets users view statistics, progress, and receive coaching tips through their headphones with built-in audio cues. Even better, though, is that RunKeeper tracks user progress over time so that the user is notified when they reach a goal, personal best, or predetermined milestone.

Originally just for smartphones, RunKeeper became readily available for Pebble smart watches earlier this month allowing for jocks and dynamos to leave their bulky handsets at home and have the convenience of the app buckled snugly around their wrist.

Back in December, RunKeeper upgraded its user interface to improve functionality as well as bolster photo and stat sharing capabilities over social media sites like Facebook and Twitter, just in time for everyone to make and break their fitness-related New Year’s resolutions.

Still not convinced that RunKeeper will get you off the couch? Don’t take it from me, just check out the reviews on Google Play and in the iTunes store. Out of 55,545 user reviews on Google Play, RunKeeper has respectable average of 4.5 stars out of 5. Compare that to the Facebook Home, Zuck’s attempt at an app for the most popular social network in the world, which has a measly 2.3 stars. On iTunes, the result is similar with RunKeeper clocking in at 4.5 stars out of 5 from 19,769 user reviews.

Despite the awesome reviews, we’d like to hear from the actual RunKeeper fans out there. Tell us what you love about the app, or even what you dislike. You know where to drop your knowledge.
