In a move to bolster its presence in the United States, Samsung will host a developers conference, the inaugural of which is to be held in San Francisco on October 27-29. Samsung will now be joining the likes of American-bred tech conglomerates Apple, Google, and Microsoft in an event that showcases next-gen technology and engages in developer workshops.

According to Engadget, details on what is expected to take place at the conference are scarce except for what’s printed on the actual invitation in which devs and users can “Engage with industry leaders, collaborate with fellow developers, and learn about new Samsung tools and SDKs.” Interestingly, though, Samsung apparently told Engadget “that the event would apply to ‘all divisions, platforms and devices,’ not just mobile.”

The event couldn’t come at a better time for Samsung as Android-run devices have a dominating 70% stranglehold on the European smartphone market, half the devices of which are bought from Samsung, according to ZDNet. Compare that to iOS’s, Apple’s flagship mobile operating system, 17.8%.

It’s a vastly different story across the pond, though. On U.S. soil, Android gadgets still own the majority of the market but the race is much tighter. With 52% compared to iOS’s 41.9%, Samsung will need a much stronger presence to up its Android game and compete with the likes of Apple and Windows Phone devices. That’s where the developers conference comes in.

Apple’s similar Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) held annually is a famously gargantuan draw for the Cupertino company. Selling tickets at $1,599 USD or in local currency where available each, WWDC was sold out in 71 seconds. That’s 1 minute and 11 seconds.

WWDC usually consists of a keynote session in which Tim Cook and company shed insight into what gadgets and updates will be available in the upcoming months, followed by days worth of developer workshops and networking events. The annual Google I/O pursues a similar agenda of a keynote and subsequent sessions so it appears likely that Samsung will follow suit.
