Our whole lives, we’ve been taught that the fast track to good health and wellness is eating our fruits and veggies. But, wearing our spices? When it comes to beauty, yes, says YSL, which has launched a decadent new skin cream packed with precious saffron.

The new cream, called “Or Rouge” (that’s French for “Red Gold”), doesn’t actually derive its beautifying goodness from the supermarket-spice-aisle form of saffron. Instead, Or Rouge is made with saffron in its next-to-impossible-to-get natural form, which comes from a crocus that blooms only in Morocco. In the fall. So precious is this saffron that a single pot of Or Rouge will set you back $400. But for the restorative benefits of this North African bloom, which include skin renewal, cellular turnover, firming, and reduction of dark spots, discoloration, and redness, it seems a fair price to pay.
