There’s a Nor’easter headed to Boston, and she has shed her first signs of impact on Boston this afternoon. Her name is Athena and she is predicted affect the east coast this week.

In conjunction with Athena, the National Weather Service has issued a high wind watch with 20-30 mph sustained winds and 40-50 mph wind gusts through Wednesday evening. A coastal advisory flood is also in effect until 3 a.m. Thursday, and some parts of Massachusetts could see snow.

The City of Boston is warning residents to expect one to two inches of rain beginning Wednesday evening through Thursday morning. Additionally, city teams are monitoring the situation as it develops and evaluating potential impacts that could be exacerbated by lingering effects of Hurricane Sandy, Mayor Menino’s office said in a statement.

In Boston and surrounding areas, the precipitation brought on by Athena came in the form of snow this afternoon. While much of it was just flurries that quickly melted after making landfall, there were a few white patches stuck on the ground here and there.

And, as expected with any weather event in the Hub, Bostonians have taken to Twitter to express their displeasure with the snow. To which I have to say: it’s November and we live in New England. What did you expect?

Check out the tweets below. Button up, people. It’s going to be a long winter.
