Recently out of closed beta, Svpply (pronounced Supply) announced a $550,000 seed round investment today, according to an article in AllThingsD this morning. The news was first brought to our attention from a blog post by Bijan Sabet of Spark Capital. Spark Capital is obviously leading this seed round of funding, but is also joined by the Founder Collective, and other high profile angels – Ron Conway, Foursquare co-founder Dennis Crowley, and former MySpace President Jason Hirschhorn.

Svpply is trying to make the e-commerce world social by finding products that you’d like to buy from following people and stores that you find interesting. Svpply is focusing more on the discovery aspect of online shopping, where traditionally you know exactly what you want and where to buy it. On Svpply you will find something new and exciting everyday by following more people and more stores on the site. Instead of waiting to see what the cool kids are wearing, you can follow them on Svpply and know before hand.

Svpply was co-founded by Boston based designer Ben Pieratt and Zach Klein, a partner at Founder Collective and current Chief Product Officer at Boxee and who previously helped launch CollegeHumor.com and Vimeo.

The site is extremely simple and has a very clean layout. After registering you are prompted to add seven items you like, and the items were all are uber-trendy and real hip. On the next step Svpply brings you personalized recommendations for people who’s style you might like (aka follow), and more products and items you’re apt to dig. Once complete you are dropped on a personalized homepage which uses a news feed layout like Facebook and Twitter.

After using Svpply for the last half hour, I now have a wish list of clothes that I cannot afford and had a lot of fun playing with it. The site resembles the feeling of browsing through a trendy magazine, because you never know quite what to expect and all of the items are really nice.

BostInno has also discovered that the Svpply team will be renting desks from another awesome Boston startup, Wistia, in Davis Sq. Make sure to check out this blog post from Principal Mo Koyfman announcing the funding.
