A hacker took Sony’s PlayStation network down for several weeks after April 20th in a massive data breach, affecting the gaming network’s 70 million subscribers worldwide and costing the company $171 million. Sony reported the attack being a massive data breach, finally able to bring the network back online in mid-May (and the PlayStation Store did not re open until June 2nd).

This morning London Metropolitan Police arrested a 19 year old they believe is in conjunction with this Sony Playstation Network cyber attack. Police reported to CNN this morning that they have a “significant amount of material” that was seized during the arrest, mainly his computer.

Police also are looking into the hacker’s purported links to LulzSec, the group who claims to have organized (and who has taken credit for) cyber attacks on the CIA and PBS. Analysts believes the group appears to be some sort of spin-off of Anonymous, the group of hackers that aided WikiLeaks among other data breaches.

Police suspect this 19 year old hacker  to be involved in attacks on “a number of international businesses and intelligence agencies.” His computer is being examined for ties to other groups and attacks, and in particular LulzSec.
