The former St. Augustine’s Church in South Boston, if you don’t know by now, will be home to 29 one-, two-, and three-bedroom luxury condos. The prices for those units were unveiled last week – and they’re steep.

Spread across three floors of the old Southie landmark, at 225 Dorchester Street, the units will range in price from $649,000 to $1.29 million, according to the Boston Herald. The site will include underground parking.

Built by Irish architect Patrick Charles Keely, St. Augustine’s was completed in 1880. In 2004, the Archdiocese of Boston was forced to close the church after running into financial troubles. The site was denied official landmark status by the Boston Landmarks Commission, but don’t tell that to the Facebook group dedicated to saving the church.

SAVE St. Augustine’s Church declares the three-story cathedral a “Historical Southie Landmark.” The Facebook group has been raising awareness of developers’ plans for the church since January, 2013, asking visitors to “post old pics of our times spent there.”

The group’s most recent Facebook post, on St. Patrick’s Day, reads:

Blessings to all as we celebrate the St. Patrick’s Day Season. Our beloved church was built with the sweat and blood of our Irish Ancestors and have our deepest respect. Although it is no longer a church, the building will stand. We are sad to report that the first condos indeed went on the market this week. We ask that you DO NOT post pictures of the listings here. They are easily found online. This page will eventually evolve into a “memory page” If anyone has photos of the Altar decorated for St. Patrick’s Day, We’d love you to share. Lets keep our thoughts and memories sacred. So many memories. God Bless and a Happy Saint Patrick’s Day to All.

St. Augustine’s is now owned by Brenco Construction of Milton, which plans to finish construction at the site by August 31.

Jacob Carlin of JW Brokerage, St. Augustine’s exclusive listing agent, told the Herald two of the condos are already under agreement for $775,000 and $1 million. Carlin added that he has offers on four other units.
