StarStreet was the first company that announced their TechStars acceptance

Earlier this morning Scott Kirsner of The Boston Globe reported that sparkcloud was the first company to join TechStars Boston; sparkcloud mentioned their TechStars acceptance in a Criagslist post looking for developers. Sparkcloud is actually the second company to announce their acceptance into the Techstars program. Jeremy Levine tweeted out on January 30th that his company, StarStreet had been accepted into TechStars.

StarStreet refers to themselves as a “sports stock market” –a place where you can buy or sell “shares” of your favorite athletes. They are currently in private beta and users have to be invited.

According to Kirsner, sparkcloud is building a site, iPhone, and iPad application that helps people who live nearby each other connect over similar interests like cooking. It sounds like the company is leveraging interest in online transparency and hyper-local networking. Sparkcloud is also in private-beta.

For those you of you unfamiliar with TechStars it is a program for start up companies that provides mentorship, seed driven investment, and the opportunity to pitch to angel investors and venture capitalists. We wrote about TechStars a few weeks ago. It’s a three month program and has already helped companies like AccelGolf, Localytics, and oneforty get off the ground.

TechStars never officially announces companies who join their program until they’ve “graduated.” It’s up to the companies to choose how they announce their acceptance.

We’re hoping some more TechStar companies will begin making their acceptances public. TechStars presence is continuing to grow in the Boston community and we’re excited to see what they turnout at the end of the summer.

Congratulations go out to StarStreet and Sparkcloud for being accepted at a great program.
