What are you doing over the summer? This question faces students as the end of the school year draws near. At Hult, the answers are as diverse as the student population. The majority of students in Hult’s one-year MBA or Master Degree programs continue their studies, either at their home campus or rotating to one of our global campuses in Boston, San Francisco, London, Dubai, Shanghai, or New York.

Many gain even more first-hand experience by participating in an internship. Julie Furbish, Associate Dean of Student Affairs at Hult Boston, shared that there are 60 students at the Boston campus with internships. The companies are varied, representing industries including consulting, technology, research, finance, real estate, and business intelligence.

How do students secure these positions? Many work with Hult Career Services, which provides resume, interview, and job search support. Alan Newton (Executive MBA ‘14) shared some advice with those applying, saying that candidates can highlight innovation and leadership in any form. Companies want to see potential and willingness to learn rather than just what’s listed on your CV, especially if you don’t have much prior work experience.

Shane Pancharoen (Master of International Business ‘15), Hult Consulting Club president, shared how he got an internship through his student organization. The Consulting Club hosted a management consulting level 1 training, and through this he was offered the opportunity to consult a company on a specific project for 12 weeks, allowing him to put theories from the first training into practice and receive his level 2 consulting certification.

Manisha Sareen (Master of International Business ’15) received an internship offer after the Career Open House on the Hult Boston campus. She and three other Hult interns are assisting a start-up restaurant with marketing and business development over the course of 5 weeks. Manisha shared that she found herself applying material learned in her classes, such as Entrepreneurship, to her work as well as bringing ideas from the internship into the classroom.

Hult’s innovative teaching methods emphasize experiential learning. Internships provide students with unequaled opportunities to utilize knowledge learned on campus and share ideas and skills with the rest of the business world.
