Salem State University was put on lockdown this afternoon after a student and driver were stabbed on a shuttle bus; all classes have been cancelled, Boston.com reports.

Timothy Wells, 25, was identified by Salem Police as the suspect. He’s described as a white male, approximately 20 years old, with red/blonde hair and some facial hair. He was wearing a white baseball cap, khaki pants and red sneakers, according to a police posting.

Wells is believed to have left campus earlier this morning in a brown 1999 Toyota Camry, with 804NTM on the license plate, heading toward downtown Salem, according to police.

Salem State Police ordered students and faculty to shelter in place at 12:35 p.m. in case the suspect was returned to campus, Boston.com reports.

The school said two victims were attacked shortly after 11 a.m. A female student suffered a laceration on her arm while the driver sustained a minor puncture wound to the chest.

The student received treatment at the scene while the driver was taken to a local hospital.

The injuries aren’t considered life threatening, according to a Salem State spokeswoman.

The school was put on lockdown at 2 p.m. Students and faculty remained in school buildings while police searched the campus earlier today. The Salem News, however, reports that the lockdown has been lifted. NECN’s broadcast confirmed this.
