A picture says a thousand words, and what does a 6 second video say? The answer: more effective marketing for your next event.

Social media engagement is the hottest topic in event marketing, and for a good reason. Tapping into the networks of each attendee with an awesome photo or tweet gains your brand even more breadth of visibility before, during, and after an event. Your brand is not only exposed to the attendees in the room for a four hour time period, but to their networks and beyond long after last-call.

Sure Twitter’s great, but there’s a lot going on and tweets can get buried momentarily in a constant stream. And yeah, there’s always Facebook, but after college does anyone really spend much time on there? What’s more effective than telling people why they should be at your event is showing them. Check out the ideas below for sparking interest in your next event through free and simple videos and beautifully filtered photos via Vine and Instagram. Upload them automatically to Twitter and Facebook using your killer event hashtag and your social media event marketing strategy is complete for the day, just like that.

Engaging Event Promotion Imagery:

  • Invite sponsors, attendees, speakers, exhibitors etc. to create Vines about why they’re excited to be involved. Ask them to include the event hashtag and share during event promotion.
  • Send clever reminders about deadlines and important event information in a more attention-grabbing and easily-shareable way.
  • Use Instagram to highlight the venue and other event features to get attendees excited.
  • Make announcements about keynote speakers, entertainment, etc.
  • Feature a Vine photo slideshow incorporating photos from previous events.
  • Run a competition to get attendees promoting the event by coming up with a creative contest (with prizes as incentive).
  • Share snippits of swag that attendees will receive at the event.
And when it’s all over, attendee-generated pics and vids provide even more fodder for event engagement post-event. If you need a bit more convincing that Vine and Instagram are super effective at creating sentiments of FOMO, let’s consider a case study. You may have attended BostonFest at the Seaport World Trade Center on August 8th, and you may have seen the awesome event photos. But, have you checked out the pictures and videos that some #BostonFesters shared? Check them out below and try to tell me you won’t get a ticket next year.
