Last night, Hollywood’s A-list gathered in celebration of the Academy Awards – and, while the weather may have been dismal, the fashion was anything but. The night’s best dresses? Check out my top five picks below.

Lupita Nyong’o
In just one year, the 12 Years a Slave nominee has gone from a virtual unknown to a style icon in the making. Lupita’s look was perhaps the most anticipated of the night (I know it was for me). And she didn’t disappoint in pale blue Prada that reminded her of “champagne bubbles,” topped off with a gold and diamond Fred Leighton headband. Perfection.

Angelina Jolie
No red carpet is complete without the queen and king of Hollywood, a.k.a. Angie and Brad, and last night was no exception. Forgoing her usual black, Jolie shone in a shimmery metallic and sheer Elie Saab couture column gown, natural hair and makeup, and the best accessory of all – Brad Pitt on her arm.

Cate Blanchett
Cate Blanchett. Does she ever get it wrong? Certainly not tonight – and it’s no surprise the Blue Jasmine star and Best Actress nominee made my best-dressed list once again. Floating down the red carpet in an ethereal Giorgio Armani bejeweled gown, Blanchett took another style risk (sheer turtleneck! supersized earrings!) that paid off. “It’s heavy, but I love it,” she said. So do we.

Sandra Bullock
The Gravity star channeled old Hollywood with a draped midnight blue Alexander McQueen gown, sideswept waves, and a smoky eye. But she added the perfect modern twist with a glittery ear cuff and navy nails.

Kate Hudson
With so many stylish nominees, Hudson stealing the show was definitely unexpected. But her architectural Atelier Versace gown was so striking that she’s guaranteed to make every best-dressed list. The not-too-revealing plunging neckline, capped sleeves, and subtle beading paired with flawless hair and makeup made this look one of the night’s biggest wins.
