Thought tying the knot meant you could get off easy post-wedding? Not so fast. It still pays to put effort into how you present yourself in front of the in-laws.
Start with khakis.
But not pleated khakis. Consider these your impress-the-parents building blocks. They should feel neutral. Your Swiss pants.
Add a cotton or linen button-front.
Lightweight enough for summer, polished enough for parents. Choose plaid to show off just the right amount of personality.
Don’t forget a cardigan.
Since there’s about a 50/50 chance you’ll be eating outside, layers are key. Have a neutral cardigan (navy or grey) on hand. Resist tying it around your waist.
And remember: please and thank you. Bring wine. No elbows on the table. And compliments to the chef, no matter how much you abhorred those brussels sprouts.
Our Dinner with the In-Laws: Wear a Nice Shirt & Pants Boutique opened Wednesday, May 28, at 11AM ET.
