Last week, we discussed the difference between wearing a pair of bunny ears and tight clothing on Halloween versus wearing an utterly ridiculous funny outfit. After coming to the conclusion that funny really is better and offering up some hilarious costume ideas, we hope to have made this Halloween decision a bit easier. But now it’s time to talk about candy.

And when it comes to candy, where do we even start? With Halloween right around the corner, you’ve probably already been caught with your hand in the candy dish quite a few times (blushing). While you can’t roll back time or wish those sugar-filled calories away, you can (starting now) begin to choose a little more carefully. But the real question is, should you? Is Halloween really the time to watch the calories or the perfect excuse to treat yourself?  Fortunately, for those still on the fence, there is a perfect candy that fits both those looking for healthy and delicious. Located at the center of the matrix is the Milky Way. But those who don’t enjoy this candy bar are left with the Halloween candy dilemma.

This Halloween when you walk into your local CVS lined with candy-stocked shelves, you might find yourself completely torn between the slightly healthier candy options (read: nasty) vs. the more delicious (albeit calorie-laden) options. Which is the better bet for Halloween? Let’s find out in the This vs. That gauntlet.

Healthier Candy

As the Halloween candy matrix (above) claims, healthy candy can be delicious too. But can it really? Generally, sugar-free or “healthier” candy has fewer calories, less sugar and less fat than that of a normal, no-holds-back candy bar. And less sugar means less on the hips, making it an ideal choice for those looking to fit into that “sexy” Halloween costume. And, even better, you won’t have to worry about a post-Halloween diet.

But in reality, are these candies actually healthy? Sure, UNREAL is chock-full of real cocoa and organic ingredients but they are still packed with several hundred calories. As for “sugar-free” candy, how many times do we need to be reminded that artificial sweeteners probably aren’t as healthy as you think? Plus, if you are under the assumption that this Halloween candy is “healthy,” you are way more likely to over-eat and end up taking down more calories than your normal candy bar. And if, Halloween isn’t the perfect time to indulge ourselves then nothing is. You deserve a little something sweet (just don’t eat the whole bag).

Delicious Candy

As soon as you eye the words “delicious candy,” you immediately take a bite from that Snickers bar conveniently located in your hand. Well, it is Halloween, after all. And this should give everyone the perfect excuse (if you need one) to indulge in sweets. As the matrix (above) shows, there are quite a few delicious Halloween candy choices ranging from candy corn to Reese’s peanut butter cups … mmm. The only negatives to this delicious candies are the ones listed above in the “healthy” candy section, which includes calories and sugar content. As for the pros, we’re pretty sure you know why you love candy. Whether its sweet, powdery, sticky or chewy, your Halloween candy fave will always hit the spot — and won’t leave those trick-or-treaters disappointed.

Winner: Delicious

Because it’s Halloween and no one should be deprived of their favorite sweet while dressed up in whatever ridiculous costume they choose to don. And we already established that funny costumes are better than “sexy” anyways, so there’s no need to worry about feeling svelte on Halloween.
