You’re not the only one confused by the endless cream and moisturizer options out there this fall. BB. CC. DD. (Do they remind anyone else of bra sizes? Maybe it’s just us.) Here, a rundown of everything you need to know about the season’s top hydrators.

Moisturizer: Your trusty standby. Don’t forget to choose one loaded with SPF, even after summer. I love a lotion with added benefits, like Clinique’s “Even Better” lotion with SPF 20, which brightens, clarifies, and corrects your skin tone.

Tinted Moisturizer: Running late? No problem. Tinted moisturizers are a great way to combine two steps: moisturizing and foundation. For starters, try Bobbi Brown’s lightweight and oil-free formula, “Pretty Natural.”

BB Creams: Short for “beauty balm” or “blemish balm,” these multitasking creams provide the coverage of a tinted moisturizer with a few additional perks: broad-spectrum SPF, antioxidants, and anti-aging peptides. Don’t mind if I do.

CC Creams: The difference between BB creams and CC creams is subtle. “CC” stands for “color correcting.”  It addresses skincare issues, like redness and skin marks, and generally feels lighter than a BB.

DD Creams: Fresh to the scene, these are the “dynamic do-all” creams. A BB/CC hybrid, DD focuses primarily on anti-aging, while balancing skin tone and protecting against the sun. Julep’s version was one of the first to hit the market.
