We recently put together an ultimate summer reading list for techies, featuring 25 great new books that have been (or are soon to be) published in 2011.

There’s a big one we missed, authored by the former Director of the MIT Media Lab (2005-2010), Frank Moss:

The Sorcerers and Their Apprentices: How the Digital Magicians of the MIT Media Lab Are Creating the Innovative Technologies That Will Transform Our Lives

The book will be available in hardcover on June 11th. In it Moss paints a picture of the inventor-innovators in the Lab during his time there, putting forth a call to action for the knowledge hungry to explore their curiosities and push innovation to the limits here in the 21st century.

The Takeaway, a radio show that is a co-production of WNYC Radio and Public Radio International, had the pleasure of interviewing Moss earlier today. In the ~8 minute interview below you will hear a few of the amazing inventors and innovations featured in the book.

Moss begins the interview by letting the world know how truly special of a place the MIT Media Lab is:

“The unique thing about the Media Lab is its this one place in the world where students, the faculty, even the corporate sponsors that show up from big companies can dream. They can invent and create according to their passions and their curiosities. It’s not dictated by a research plan. They’re really just saying, ‘What am I passionate about? Let’s explore that and see where it goes.'”

Enjoy listening in on this as you go throughout your afternoon tasks.
