Just because winter is coming doesn’t mean you have to hibernate. And to prove that, BostInno 50 On Fire winner the Lawn on D is hosting a Fire and Ice Festival to draw you out of the house.

On Saturday, December 27 and Sunday, December 28, ‘Winter on D’ will host the festival, which will include plenty of entertainment of both the hot and cold varieties. For the icy portion of the day, which will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., there will be an ice bar, serving up both non-alcoholic and boozy drinks to warm you up, like hot cocoa, coffee, wine and beer.

In addition to the booze on ice, there will also be an “ice labrynth,” a five-foot-high and 50 by 50-foot maze made with 270 ice blocks weighing 300 pounds each. When walking through, guests will find an intricately carved structure entirely made of ice. The labrynth will take over the space where the swings formerly were at the Lawn on D. There will also be music, family activities and food trucks on site during the ‘ice’ portion of the festival.

In the evening, the ‘fire’ side of the festival will begin, from 5 to 8 p.m., with a live “fire” performance, similar to Cirque du Soleil, featuring the American Repertory Theater’s Oberon performers, who can manipulate fire. During the show, Legal Sea Foods will be handing out free samples of clam chowder and small bites, and there will be three to six fire pits set up to keep guests toasty during the performance.

This unusual festival is the perfect way to cap off the year before we ring in a new one. So bundle up and join the Lawn on D on December 27 and 28. The ice labrynth will also be open on Monday, December 29 for anyone interested, but there will be no ‘fire’ portion that day.
